TPLO& TTA
We offer advanced cruciate ligament repair surgery to restore stability, reduce arthritis, and help dogs return to pain-free movement.

When your dog suffers a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injury—similar to an ACL tear in humans—it can be devastating to watch them struggle with pain and mobility issues. At our veterinary practice, we specialize in two of the most advanced surgical procedures available for treating these injuries: Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) and Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA). These cutting-edge techniques offer your dog the best chance of returning to an active, pain-free life.

How TPLO Works

TPLO surgery changes the angle and relationship between the thigh bone (femur) and the shin bone (tibia). The overall intent is to reduce the amount that the tibia shifts forward during a stride. This is accomplished by making a semicircular cut through the top of the tibia, rotating the top of the tibia, and using a bone plate to allow the tibia to heal.

The true beauty of TPLO surgery is that it completely alters the dynamics of the knee. Once the bone is cut and the tibial plateau is rotated, the femur can no longer slide backward. The knee is immediately stabilized, eliminating the need for the ACL ligament entirely and returning stability to the joint immediately.

How TTA Works

The TTA procedure involves cutting the front part of the tibia and separating it from the rest of the tibia. A special orthopaedic spacer is screwed into the space between the two sections of bone to slide the front part forward and up. This moves the patellar ligament into better alignment, thereby removing abnormal sliding movement.

The TTA surgery aims to stabilize the knee by moving the tibial tuberosity forward, so that the patellar tendon becomes perpendicular to the tibial plateau. The increased forward pull of the patellar tendon when weight is placed on the affected limb helps to counteract the back-sliding force that occurs when the cranial cruciate ligament is ruptured.

Your Dog Deserves the Best Care

TPLO and TTA surgeries become necessary to restore stability to the knee joint and alleviate pain and discomfort associated with CCL injuries. Unlike some other surgical techniques, these procedures aim to change the biomechanics of the knee joint, reducing the need for the cranial cruciate ligament's function.

At our practice, we understand that your dog is family. We're committed to providing the highest standard of orthopaedic care using the most advanced techniques available. Our experienced surgical team, state-of-the-art equipment, and comprehensive approach to recovery ensure your dog receives the best possible outcome.
